[Also in Divisions F1 and H1] In an ignition distributer including a hollow cam-shaft 12, mounted on and rotatable with the shaft 11 driven by the engine to operate a contact breaker, cam-shaft 12 being moved angularly relative to driven shaft 11 by a centrifugal mechanism to vary the ignition timing, an annular chamber is defined between cam-shaft 12 and driven shaft 11 and means 14 is positioned within the chamber engaging driven shaft 11 and cam-shaft 12 to damp angular movement of cam-shaft 12 relative to driven shaft 11, while permitting limited angular movement of cam-shaft 12 under the action of the centrifugal mechanism. As shown, means 14 is in the form of a strip of spring steel the ends of which engage the inner surface of cam-shaft 12 and the mid-region of which is flexed to engage the circumference of a reduced portion 13 of shaft 11, so that friction between portion 13 and spring 14 damps angular oscillation of camshaft 12 relative to shaft 11. The purpose is to minimize the generation of noise in the centrifugal mechanism.
