Abstract
1,266,465. Grinding. CINCINNATI MILACRON Inc. 4 June, 1970 [13 June, 1969], No. 26938/70. Heading B3D. A flange for securing a grinding wheel 12 to a spindle 11 comprises an annular body 24 having an inner periphery 20 which fits slidably over the spindle, a side face 18 which contacts one end of the wheel, and a plurality of circumferentially spaced openings 25 having respective mouths which open in to the inner periphery, part of the periphery of each opening defining a wedge portion 26 therein, a respective wedge block 30 in each opening, and resilient means 29 in each opening for biasing the wedge blocks against the wedge portions into locking positions such that the blocks engage the spindle and prevent relative radial movement between the body and spindle. The flange fits over a reduced portion 21 of the spindle and the grinding wheel abuts a flange (15, Fig. 1, not shown) at the other end of the spindle. The flange is secured to the spindle by bolts (19). Each wedge block 30 is formed with a surface 32 engaging the surface 26 of its respective opening and a surface 33 for engaging the surface of the reduced portion of the spindle. The resilient means in each opening consists of a leaf spring 29 located by a lip 28 in the opening. Opposite sides of its body are formed with recesses receiving rings 36, 37 interconnected by pins 38 passing through the openings. One of the rings 36 is formed with teeth 40 which can be engaged by a gear 43 on a wrench 41 whereby the rings can be rotated to cause the pins to engage the wedge blocks and move them from engagement with the spindle to permit removal and replacement of the flange and grinding wheel. The rings can be secured in position by clamping screws 45.
