Abstract

1,266,147. Compressed gas storage containers. NITROCHILL Ltd. 1 May. 1969 [6 May, 1968 (2)], Nos. 21399/68 and 21400/68. Heading F4P. A compressed permanent gas, e.g. nitrogen oxygen or argon storage cylinder 41, Fig. 6, is charged with gas in the liquid phase by inserting a probe (not shown) into a through bore 7, Fig. 3, in a valve body 1 screwthreaded at 42<SP>1</SP> into the cylinder neck 42 thereby opening a flap valve 18 which when the probe is withdrawn is held closed by gas pressure generated within the cylinder space, and gas is discharged from the cylinder through a second through bore 12, 17, 15, Fig. 4, in the valve body and to which is screwthreaded at 14 a conventional pressure reducing valve (not shown). Discharge may also be controlled by a needle valve 27 disposed between bore sections 12, 17. Suspended within the cylinder, which is of aluminium, is a vessel 43 comprising an upper apertured aluminium sleeve 45, swaged round a groove 5<SP>1</SP> in the valve body portion 3, and a lower apertured aluminium tube 46 surrounded by a bag 47 of plastics material which during the filling operation receives the liquid charge. Gas generated by ambient heat passes through apertures 49, up tube 46 and through apertures 48 in sleeve 45 to the space between the bag 47 arid the cylinder wall.
