Abstract

126,610. Hermoye, O., and Glorian, C. May 6, 1918, [Convention date]. Concrete vessels.-Reinforced blockwork structures such as ships' hulls are formed of hollow reinforced-concrete blocks, Fig. 1, the interior being elliptical and the corner edges cut away to accom. modate longitudinal bars c, d which are bound by transverse rods f, g and embedded in concrete between adjacent blocks. The blocks may be laid on their sides or ends. Tubular joists may be formed by connecting a row of the blocks by the bars c, d; the ends of the blocks are rabbeted to interlock and the concrete enclosing the lower bars projects at the base as shown in Fig. 5. These joists may then be laid side by side without centering. Shear bonds are connected to the rods and project into the spaces between the joists, and concrete is applied between and over the joists. For columns and posts, the rods are vertical, Fig. 9, and each course consists of one, two, or four blocks.
