Abstract
115,457. Heathcote, C. H., and Osborne, S. April 5, 1917. Reinforced-concrete columns, girders, and beams; joist floors with slab filling.-In buildings formed of reinforced-concrete columns, beams, and slabs cast beforehand as separate units, the junctions are strengthened by rods g, g', g<2>, laid in channels cr grooves in the top faces and parallel to the sides of the units, and the caps of the columns are formed with sockets a<4> to receive the columns above. The beams are splayed at their ends so that a cavity or enlargement of the socket is formed over each column cap. The rods g, g<1> pass to right and left of the columns to the opposite grooves b<3>, c<3>, or to adjacent grooves. Smaller beams c* fit at their ends in pockets on the main beams, the junctions being strengthened by the rods g<2>. The top edges of the slabs dare rabbeted to form channels d<2> in which are laid the rods i. All the channels and joints are grouted with cement to embed the rods. Lifting-eyes f, which may be part of the main reinforcement of the beams, and similar eyes d<1>, a<5> axe provided. The columns and beams are reinforced by longitudinal rods and a body hooping or wrapping, and the roof construction is similar to the floor.
