[Also in Division D1] A plurality of textile yarns or filaments Y is treated as a flat band with a liquid, e.g. a starch, sago or PVA-based size, in trough 12 and the yarns subsequently are passed simultaneously and successively over a plurality of driven rollers 23 which are heated internally by hot oil, liquid wax or another liquid boiling above 100‹ C., before being individually wound up on separate packages P. Successive rollers in the sequence may have their heating fluid pumped in at opposite ends of the roller alternatively, the fluid supply being common to all the rollers. The treating liquid may be applied by other means, e.g. a roller rotating in a trough and contacting the yarns, or by spraying. Roller temperatures up to 600‹ F. are envisaged.
