Abstract

1,253,657. Dyeing and finishing yarns. M. MATHEWS. 8 July, 1968 [6 May, 1968], No. 21321/68. Heading D1L. A yarn to be dyed is passed between at least one pair of dye applicator rollers 4, each of which is contacted by a dye metering roller 7 having an indented surface and each of which is in turn contacted by a pivoted pad 11 having a passage for the dye (supplied via line 12), and the dyed yarn is subsequently fixed in a heated chamber. The indentations on the rollers 7 may be such as to produce a random or a regular pattern. As disclosed, the dyed yarn is advanced through the chamber on a plurality of coiled springs extending axially of an annular support frame, the springs being connected with each other and the carrier drive shaft by a chain drive whereby they are rotatable. Rotation of the springs advances the yarn along the carrier axis while also effecting conveying thereof. The fixed yarn is washed by passage through tanks each containing two carriers comprising a plurality of rotating radial arms having yarn guides at their extremities, the yarn passing from one carrier to the other before being squeezed out. The yarn is dried on a similar carrier which may be mounted coaxially inside the fixing carrier.
