Abstract

1,265,802. Plaster compositions. TEMEC Ltd. 3 April, 1969 [4 April, 1968], No. 16362/68. Heading C1H. An aqueous calcium sulphate plaster composition containing 38 to 60 wt. per cent of plaster solids and 28-50% of water has incorporated therein 2-15% of a waterproofing resin dissolved in 4-15% of an organic solvent which is dispersed in the aqueous phase and is substantially immiscible with water and evaporates from the composition at a rate similar to the evaporation rate of water from the composition. Up to 50% of the plaster solids can be replaced by Portland cement and the composition can contain a substituted cellulose e.g. sodium carboxy methyl cellulose, hydroxy propyl cellulose, hydroxy ethyl methyl cellulose, ethyl-hydroxyethyl cellulose and hydroxyethyl cellulose as a suspending agent for the organic solvent. Suitable resins are ester gum, maleic anhydride modified rosin, phenol/formaldehyde modified rosin, rosin, Ca/Zn resinate, styrene homolog copolymer, vinyl-toluene/butadiene copolymer, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, acrylic copolymers, and petroleum and coal tar hydrocarbon polymer resins e.g. polyindene and coumarone-indene resins. Suitable organic solvents are xylene and aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons boiling in the range 139-175‹ C.
