Abstract

A dry mix for incorporation into a coating composition comprises portland cement and an equal or greater amount of comminuted zinc. The mix may be added to water in which case a small amount of methyl cellulose may be present as a binder; or to organic coating compositions where the binder is linseed oil, rubber, chlorinated rubber, cyclised rubber, asphalt, rosin derivatives, cellulose derivatives, epoxy rosins, styrenebutadiene, polystyrene, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl chloride-polyvinyl acetate resins, chlorinated polypropylene, or coumarone resins. The compositions may also contain calcium chloride, quaternary ammonium bentonite, iron oxide, driers and lime. They may be applied e.g. by brushing to iron or steel plates, or galvanized metal and then heated; further paints may be applied thereto. In examples, specified cellulose derivatives include cellulose nitrate and ethyl cellulose; solvents used include ethyl alcohol, toluene, and methyl isobutyl ketone.ALSO:A dry mix for incorporation into a coating composition comprises Portland cement and an equal or greater amount of comminuted zinc.
