1361506 Ethylene copolymer compositions IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 Oct 1972 [20 Dec 1971] 58996/71 Heading C3P Strippable coating compositions for metal surfaces comprise (1) 20 to 80 weight per cent of a high molecular weight copolymer of ethylene with 12 to 45 weight per cent of vinyl acetate or methyl, ethyl or butyl acrylate or methacrylate, having a melt flow index of below 500 and (2) 80 to 20 weight per cent of a low molecular weight copolymer of ethylene with 5 to 30 weight per cent of vinyl acetate or methyl, ethyl or butyl acrylate or methacrylate, having a molecular weight of 500 to 4000 by elevation of boiling point method. The compositions may also contain hydrocarbon waxes, brown coal waxes; tack resins, e.g. hydrogenated glycerol and pentaerythritol esters of wood rosin, coumarone/indene resins, petroleum resins, fusible phenolic resins, polystyrene resins, α-methylstyrene/vinyl toluene copolymers and polydiene resins; and antioxidants, e.g. butylated hydroxy toluene. Examples describe blends of copolymers of ethylene with 16% vinyl acetate, having a molecular weight of 1750, with copolymers of ethylene with 28 or 40% vinyl acetate, having melt flow indices of 400, 150 or 50.
