Abstract
1,265,781. Bearings. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG NURBERG A.G. 9 Jan., 1970 [15 Jan., 1969], No. 1278/70. Heading F2A. [Also in Division F1] A generally U-shaped crank-case 2 with the ends of the arms of the U forming crank-case feet 2a, 2b has the crank-shaft 15 supported against bearing surfaces in the bar of the U by respective bearing caps 1. Each bearing cap 1 is held in abutment with a surface 4 of one arm of the U by a screw 7 and a pin 6 under compression and the arms of the U are connected together beneath each cap by screws 10 and rods 8 under tension to prestress the crank-case. Channels 11 and 12 of semicircular cross-section provided at the transition regions between the arms and the bar of the U may have a radius of curvature which is substantially 8% of the crank-shaft diameter. The bearing caps 1 may be asymmetrical relative to the longitudinal central plane of the engine, one of the two opposite sides 5 of each cap being a different distance from a plane parallel to the one side and including the crank-shaft axis than the other opposite side.
