Abstract
1,142,274. Roller straightening. MASCHINEN-UND BOHRGER€TE-FABRIK AL FRED WIRTH & CO. K.G. 15 June, 1967 [22 June, 1966], No. 27690/67. Heading BoE. A heavy duty roller straightening machine, in which the spacing between the rollers is variable, comprises a base, two lateral uprights and a bridge which is connected to the base by a tension member. The base 1 and the bridge 2 have end surfaces 24 and 25 which engage corresponding surfaces on the uprights 3 and 4. Deformation of the bridge due to the loads imposed on it by the upper straightening rollers 16 is resisted by a central member 20 which has opposed surfaces 22 and 23 which co-operate with similar surfaces on the base and bridge. The central lower straightening roller 18 is mounted in a housing 17 which is vertically adjustable in the member 20. The outer lower straightening rollers 11 are mounted in housings 10 which are slidable along a guideway 9 in the base. The housings 10 also act as tie-bars and have lips which engage under the edges of the guide-way 9, and extensions 12 having portions 19 which engage over the edges of a guideway 14 for the housings 15 of the upper straightening rollers 16. Also slidable in the lower guideway 9 are inlet and outlet blocks 5 and 7 respectively which carry guide rollers 6 and 8 on vertical axes. For a very long machine the base and bridge may be built up from more than two sections each, the sections being similar to 1a 1b 2a and 2b.
