1,265,768. Producing iron powder. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 17, 1970 [June 20, 1969], No.29378/70. Heading C7D. Iron powder for magnetic recording, consisting of rod shaped particles of length 0À5 to 2 microns, the length being at least five times the largest diameter of any cross-section, is obtained by pseudomorphously reducing an iron oxide powder in a fluidized bed with a gas consisting of at least 50% by volume of hydrogen. Following reduction the powder may be stabilized in the same fluidized bed by treating it with a weakly oxidizing gas at 20‹ to 500 C., possibly followed by treatment in the bed with pure oxygen, again at not more than 50‹C.
