Abstract
1,253,484. Oxidizing ferrous sulphate. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. 2 June, 1970 [6 June, 1969], No. 26634/70. Heading C1A. FeSO 4 is oxidized to Fe 2 (SO 4 ) 3 by passing an aqueous solution of FeSO 4 with H 2 SO 4 and air through a fixed bed of granular active carbon while regenerating another bed by passing H 2 SO 4 therethrough, the H 2 SO 4 then being used as feed to the first bed. The H 2 SO 4 is preferably passed upwards through the bed being regenerated and then mixed with the FeSO 4 and passed down the first bed concurrently with the air. More than two beds may be used, reneration being performed in cyclic rotation. The pressure may be greater than 2 atm. abs.
