Abstract

1,265,477. Container closures. JOHN DALE Ltd. 29 May, 1969 [1 March, 1968], No. 10119/68. Heading B8T. A polythene closure assembly for containers comprises a cap having a crown 10, a plurality of circumferentially spaced rupturable bridging elements 14 joining the cap to a retaining ring 13, a hinge element 17 provided between the cap and retaining ring such that on opening the container by upward movement of a tab 16 the elements 14 are progressively ruptured but the cup remains attached to the retaining ring 13 by means of the hinge element 17. The hinge element 17 is provided with a thickened portion 24 which terminates in a tag 25 whose outward movement results in the breaking of weakened portions (23), Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), thus permitting the removal of the retaining ring 13. Alternatively the weakened portions (23) may be broken by movement of the cap about the hinge element 17. The weakened portions (23) may be provided at any location about the ring 13.
