Abstract

1,265,285. Door &c fittings. K. ENGSTFELD [trading as WILHELM ENGSTFELD]. 15 Oct., 1970 [17 Oct., 1969], No. 49100/70. Heading E2A. A fitting comprises a first portion 2 adapted to be secured to a surface, such as a door surface, and a cap 8 adapted to be pressfitted on to the portion 2 to at least partially cover the same, the portion 2 being made of a resiliently deformable material, such as a plastics, and having on the periphery thereof at least one cap retaining projection 6 adapted to yield inwardly when the cap is fitted thereon. An aperture 5 on the portion 2 is located inwardly of the projection to increase flexibility of the projection in its movement. As shown, the portion 2 has arcuate slots 5 disposed between screw holes 4 and a bush 1 for the spindle of a door handle, the projections 6 each being formed with a chamfer 13 to facilitate pushing on of the cap which is formed with a groove 11 in which projections engage. A projection 19 engages in a recess in the cap to prevent relative rotation between the parts of the fitting. In modifications, (a) the portion 2 and cap are each provided with a keyhole, (b) radially directed tongues are disposed on either side of the screw holes 4 and the portion 2 has a projecting collar for engagement in a circular aperture in the cap, which collar may have an outwardly directed wall to facilitate entry of a key.
