Abstract
1,264,652. Blood collection and storage bag. BIOTEST SERUM INSTITUT G.m.b.H. 26 Feb., 1969, No. 10346/69. Heading A5R. A container for collecting and storing biological liquids, e.g. blood, comprises a bag 1 of plastics sheet material formed by welding at its edges, and a rigid neck portion 5 welded to the bag and containing bores 7, normally closed by a membrane 6, and a union 8 coupling to a flexible tube 2 connected to a vein cannula 4 which may be stored in the neck portion. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown) an additional bore is incorporated in a member (12) sealed onto a union (10) connected to the neck portion. The union is sealed by a membrane (11) which is pierceable by moving a puncture needle (14) attached to a cover (13) of the member (12). In a further embodiment, Figs. 4a, 5 (not shown), specifically adapted for freeze drying the contents of the bag, a cap (25) is held to the neck portion (17) by a tear-off tab 26. The cap may be replaced, inverted, and welded to the neck portion to reseal the bag. A final embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown) includes a drip chamber (21) sealed to a neck portion, which contains a filter hose (30) maintained within the bag.
