Abstract
1,264,345. Fluidized bed steam boiler. FOSTER WHEELER JOHN BROWN BOILERS Ltd. 28 July, 1970 [6 Aug., 1969], No. 39469/69. Heading F4A. Fluidized bed steam boiler 10 comprises an inner rectangular chamber 12 defining the bed itself and an outer easing 40 defining, with the walls 36, a passage 42 for fluidizing -air. The air enters through porous plate 14 and fluidizes the bed to level 18. Evaporating tubes 20 are distributed throughout the bed between headers 22 and 24. Primary superheater tubes 26 are also distributed in the bed but only between level 18 and static level 16. Both sets of tubes are of zig-zag shape with substantially horizontal portions joined in a vertical plane by U- bends and are arranged so that they alternate as seen in plan, Fig. 2 (not shown). A secondary superheater section 34 may be placed in the gas outlet and a desuperheater (not shown) may be provided between the two sections. The walls 36 may be made up of tube panels and some-of the tubes may be downcomers from the steam drum 32 to header 28. The bed may also be circular, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), with the evaporating and superheating tubes in the form of interlaced helical coils. Some or all of the superheating tubes can be replaced by reheating tubes if a reheat section is provided.
