Abstract
1,263,542. Automatic ticket gates. OMRON TATEISI ELECTRONICS CO. 28 May, 1969 [14 June, 1968], No. 26950/69. Heading G4T. An automatic ticket gate comprises normallyopen barrier means, means for predetermining the passable direction through the gate, means operable in response to a passenger entering the gate in the direction opposite to said predetermined passable direction to control said barrier means and prevent passage therethrough, and means operable in response to a passenger turning back and leaving the gate to prevent operation of said control means. General operation.-The automatic ticket gate comprises spaced side members 10, 20, having ticket inlet and outlet slots 12, 14, and 22, 24, respectively. Two sets of photo-electric cells 41-44 and 51-54 detect passage through the gate. A pair of normally-open barriers 18, 28 and 17, 27 is provided at each end of the side members. The automatic ticket gate is preset to permit passage in one direction. If a passenger enters the gate in the wrong direction and then, realizing his mistake, retreats, the circuit is reset. If the passenger continues in the wrong direction an alarm sounds and the circuit reset if he now retreats. If in spite of the alarm, the passenger continues in the wrong direction, the barriers close to bar his way. If an invalid ticket is inserted, the barriers close if the passenger attempts to pass. The automatic ticket gate can store information concerning four tickets at a time. Instead of the automatic ticket gate being preset, the gate can be conditioned to passage in one direction according to the slot 12 or 22 receiving a ticket. Circuit arrangement.-The automatic ticket gate is preset by closing switch 64 or 74 applying an inhibit signal to one ticket sensing circuit. Flip-flop 80 is set or reset according to whether a ticket is inserted in slot 12 or 22 to generate signals 60, 66 or 70, 76, respectively. These signals control diode matrixes 82, 97 to pass signals from photo-electric detectors 51-54 or 41-44 (that is to say the detectors furthest from the gate entrance). If a passenger enters at the wrong end of the gate, detectors 53, 51 or 43, 41 fire in order to energize a circuit 35-39 setting flip-flop 46 to remove a signal from NOT gate 134 and inhibit gates 105-108. If the passenger now retreats, detectors 51, 53 or 41, 43 fire in order to energize circuit 47-49, 56 whereby AND gate 55 fires to reset the flip-flop 46. If the passenger passes the detectors completely the output of NOT gate 84 changes from 0 to 1 whereby differentiating circuit 85 fires to set flip-flop 89 energizing an alarm 139 and apply a signal to NOT gate 134 removing the inhibit signal from gates 105-108. AND gate 55 resets flip-flop 89 if the passenger retreats. The set output of flip-flop 89 also prepares AND gates 68, 78 and extinguishes AND gates 67, 77 whereby the signals on 60, 70 reverse, to condition diode matrix 97 to the other set of detectors (i.e. those detectors adjacent the gate exit for a passenger moving in the wrong direction). As a passenger passes said other set of detectors, signals on lines 101-104 pass INHIBIT gates 105-108 to fire AND gate 111 generating a signal 112. As the passenger clears said other set of detectors the output of NOT gate 116 changes from 0 to 1 to generate a signal 119. This signal is applied through OR gate 109 to the inhibit input of INHIBIT gates 105-108 to prevent a false signal occurring due to the detection of a passenger's handbag or piece of luggage. The signal also passes through NOT gate 121 and differentiating circuit 122 to generate a signal 123 after a short delay. The signals 112, 119 and 123 are applied to the ticket validity memory circuit of Fig. 4. Each ticket detected by the gate applies a signal 125 to step a ticket counter 124 applying a signal to each AND gate 130-133 in turn. Ticket checking means applies a valid signal 126 to the gates 130-133 whereby the appropriate flip-flop 160-163 is set. Signal 123 steps a passenger counter 127 applying a signal to AND gates 140-143 in turn whereby the AND gates 160- 163 are reset. The reset outputs of gates 160- 163, signal 112, and output of the passenger counter 127 are applied to AND gates 170-173 when a ticket is invalid or a passenger passes through the automatic ticket gate in the wrong direction to control the barriers. The latter operate switches 137, 880 (Fig. 3) to reset the circuit.
