Abstract

126,353. Chevallier, A. L. Jan. 5, 1917. Ordnance design.-A spring- mounted muzzle attachment for the discharge of supercalibre bombs is described. The gun barrel, the front portion 4 of which is reduced in section and carries a piston 4', recoils against the action of springs j, k housed within a fixed sleeve 2a and a movable sleeve 2. The rear of the sleeve 2 normally bears against a shoulder i on the barrel, and the front is enlarged to form a holder 3 for the bomb. The bomb, which may be cylindrical or spherical in shape, carries a hollow tail piece fitting the reduced front portion of the barrel.
