1,263,526. Preventing encrustation and destroying foam in fermentation vessels. PROCESS ENG. CO. S.A. 13 Feb., 1969 [13 Feb., 1968], No. 7974/69. Heading B1M. During a fermentation process in vessel 1 in which foam is broken by rotating plates 3, 4 and 5, and separated gas is discharged between the plates and thence through hollow shaft 2, encrustation by the growth of microorganisms is prevented by introducing gas, steam, or liquid nutrient medium through bore 15 so that it strikes the top of the top of vessel 1, and then flows over plates 3, 4 and 5 in a general direction substantially opposite to that of the gas discharge flow.
