Abstract

1,263,391. Gate valves. COPLASTIX Ltd. 6 April, 1970 [7 Jan., 1969; 8 April, 1969], Nos. 913/69 and 17766/69. Heading F2V. A sealing member 36 is carried in a continuous groove adjacent the periphery of a gate and is inflated to cause a sealing portion 44 to abut a continuous surface in a channel-shaped frame 22 when the gate reaches a closed position and closed tube 48 is squashed between the base of the frame and the bottom of the gate. The sealing portion is contained wholly within the groove (as shown) during movement between open and closed positions. The gate is moved by a handwheel (32) and a threaded valve stem (30). In a modification there is lost-motion between the gate and valve stem and this motion is used to actuate a piston-cylinder on the gate to inflate the sealing member. A gravity-operated bolt preventing piston movement is released on the gate reaching closed position.
