Abstract
1,262,484. Cratches for dressing animal carcases. BRISTOL SAW-CHINE CO. Ltd. [trading as BRISTOL ABATTOIR EQUIPMENT CO.] 6 May, 1969 [21 May, 1968], No. 24271/ 68. Heading A2U. [Also in Division B8] A cratch for dressing animal carcases comprises an endless slatted conveyer, the load bearing surfaces of the slats being bowed to receive an animal carcase. As shown, the slats 24 are arranged in spaced groups of six, each group being adapted to support the carcase 26 of e.g. a sheep such that the heads of the carcases can hang down in the spaces between the groups of slats. The slats are preferably carried by a pair of endless roller chains 22 supported on longitudinally slidable tensioning sprocket wheels 20 and driving sprocket wheels (not shown) within a housing 28. The upper runs of the chains are supported by their rollers running on angle irons 38, similar supports (not shown) being provided for the lower run. Plates 40 covering the lower run act as guards and facilitate cleaning of the conveyer. The carcases are supplied to the conveyer by an overhead rail 42 from which the carcases are suspended as at 46. Another overhead rail 44 is provided on to which the dressed carcases are transferred for removal to a further processing stage. In a modification (not shown) the discharge end of the upper run of the slatted conveyer is at a higher level than the remainder of the upper run to facilitate such transfer.
