Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A door closer device of the type comprising a piston 12 longitudinally slidable in a cylindrical bore 14 in a casing 10, wherein the piston is displaced axially against the force of springs 28 when the door is opened, is characterised in that a first axially extending rod 62, projecting from a first end plug 18 which closes one end of the bore, extends through a hole 32 in the adjacent end of the piston and is shaped to allow the flow of hydraulic fluid through the piston to provide a predetermined resistance during the closing movement, and a second axially extending rod 34, projecting from a second end plug 16 at the other end of the bore, extends through a hole 30 in the opposite end of the piston to provide a resistance to door opening. The first rod 62 may be parallel and a non-fluidtight fit in the hole 32 or flattened or tapered or having stepped diameters to provide a varying resistance to closing, and is also provided with a short axially extending flat 68 which allows an increased flow of fluid through the piston when the door is nearly closed, thereby causing an accelerated latching of the door. The flat 68 may co-operate with a further hole 70 in the piston, so that the rod 62 may be rotated to vary the final closing speed. The piston 12 has a toothed axially extending slot 26 engaging with a spur pinion 22 on a shaft 20 which is connected by levers to the door frame. The second rod 34 may have a tapered flat 38 to provide an increasing resistance to door opening. (For Figure see next page)
