Abstract
1,261,109. Rolling plates. NIPPON STEEL CORP. 18 March, 1969 [19 March, 1968], No. 14080/69. Heading B3M. [Also in Division C7] A thick steel plate, having a thickness of 50 mm., or more, is cooled after hot rolling by spraying the upper and lower surfaces with water at a rate of between 0À1 and 0À6 m.<SP>3</SP>/m.<SP>2</SP>/ min. (2À2 to 13À2 gals (ft.<SP>2</SP>/min.). The water is supplied at a pressure of more than 0À8 Kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>, and the area of the surfaces directly hit by the water sprays is at least 0À05 m.<SP>2</SP>/m.<SP>2</SP>. A plate 2 is shown supported on a roller table 1 with spray nozzles 3<SP>1</SP> and 101 located above and below the plate. Water for the nozzles is supplied from a pipe 6. The plate may be moved backwards and forwards on the table during cooling.
