Abstract
1,149,045. Quenching steel plates. BETHLEHEM STEEL CORP. Oct.13, 1966 [Nov.24, 1965; March 14, 1966; June 22, 1966], No.45789/66. Heading C7N. A method for water spray quenching a steel plate which has been heated to completely austenetize it, is characterized in that the parameter Q#P sin # for each nozzle during the initial quenching period so as to minimize the formation of high temperature transformation products is at least 600 wherein Q is the quantity of water supplied in gallons per minute per square foot of area of the plate on which spray from the nozzle impinges, P is the water pressure in p. s. i. g. and # is the angle (up to 90 degrees) between the surface of the plate and the centre line of the water spray. Q must be at least 30 and P at least 35.
