[Also in Divisions C7 and F4] A basic oxygen-type steelmaking installation includes a mobile converter which moves on intersecting tracks between various operating stations, the converter body being supported on at least four trucks each of which is pivotable about its vertical axis; there is also provided at each rail intersection a lifting device such as a jack to lift the convertor vehicle so that the trucks may be rotated into alignment with the alternative tracks. As illustrated convertor body B held in trunnion ring 10 is mounted in frame C by bearings 11, 12 and is tiltable by gear 21, the frame being recessed to allow pouring. The frame is mounted on four trucks such as H and I which are propelled along paired rails 30, 31 and 32, 33 by motors 76, 76<SP>1</SP>. Each truck consists of a frame 50 on which are mounted four wheels e.g. 72, 73, the frame being rotatable on bearing plates 62, 63 about pillar 50 welded to frame C. At each track intersection there is provided a floor-mounted rack R, the ram 83 of which engages foot 53 to lift the frame enabling the truck to be rotated into alignment with alternative tracks 35 by double-acting fluid pressure cylinders such as 90, 91. The foot 53 may be mounted on the ram of a hydraulic jack M built into the truck as an alternative or additional means of raising the latter.
