Abstract

1,260,887. Boots, &c. P. FUNK and A. FUNK [trading as PETER FUNK OHG], 24 June, 1969 [24 June, 1968], No. 31960/69. Heading A3B. [Also in Division B5] A shoe having a moulded sole 20 is made by placing the upper 19 on a last having a recess 5 in its bottom surface, the edge of the recess 5 being undercut at 7, placing the lasted upper over a mould 24, 25, 33 and injecting rubber or plastics material to form the sole 20, the injected material flowing into at least part of the recess 5 so that the margins 18 of the upper 19 become embedded in the outsole. In a first embodiment (Figure 2) an insole 16 and filler 17 are placed in the recess 5 and the injected material flows into the regions 21, 22 to embed the margins 18 of the upper 19. The margins 18 may be connected by perforated strips 28 before the upper 19 is placed on the last. In a second embodiment (Figure 4) an insole 16 having downturned edges 35 is placed in the recess 5 'before moulding. The last (Figure 1) consists of two parts 1, 2 joined along a line 3 by a dovetail 10 and which are held in position by a spring loaded ball catch 11. The bottom of the last may be provided with replaceable portions 13 to form different contours 14 on the foot contacting surface of the shoe bottom. The method is particularly suitable for the manufacture of sandals.
