[Also in Division F2] A vehicle safety seat belt assembly includes an elongated belt section 20 having a shortened initial length defined by a pair of longitudinally overlapping sections 28, 30 folded about a fold line 26 and secured together by rows of stitches sewn parallel to the edges of the belt, the stitches being formed so as to break upon application of a predetermined force, and the overlapping sections 28, 30 being folded about a second fold line 33 on to an unstitched section of the belt so that the sections 28, 30 lie flat against the belt and are enclosed by a destructible sleeve 36, Figure 4, the arrangement being such that when the predetermined force is exceeded, the sleeve 36 will tear and the belt will gradually elongate as the overlapping stitched sections separate.
