Abstract

1,259,898. Separating dust from air. TAC CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS Ltd. 4 March, 1970 [12 May, 1969], No. 24133/69. Heading B1T. [Also in Divisions B8 and F4] Fibrous dust material generated by a rotary scraper 4 during the stripping of a fibrous coating, e.g. of asbestos fibres, is sucked in through an inlet 3 and passed via a hose 6 and inlet 18 to a filter chamber 19 provided with a fabric filter 20 treated to provide large surface area. The suction air stream is produced by a series of fans 21 located above the filter 20. The dust falls down from the filter into a conical hopper 22 having an outlet 23 and a rotary valve 24 and is collected in a disposable container 32 in the form of a length of polyethylene tubing. The end of the tubing is closed by a seal 35. When a sufficient quantity of dust has collected two further seals 36 are made and the tubing is cut between these seals forming a sealed container which can then be disposed of. When clogged, dust is removed from the filter 20 by moving a rod 34 attached thereto up and down. The rotary scraper 4, which is mounted at the front end of a casing 1 including a cowl 2, comprises a core 9 surrounded by a sleeve 12 of flexible material, e.g. leather, in which a series of spikes 13 are fixed.
