Abstract

797,833. Scavengering machines. MARPLESONS, Ltd., and MARPLES, S. A. Feb. 17, 1956 [Nov. 17, 1954], No. 33288/54. Class 107 A road and similar surface scavengering machine has means for directing gas or vapour under pressure on to the refuse. A jet engine, gas turbine, steam generator, air compressor or I.C. engine is used to provide the gas or vapour and may drive the machine. A wheeled frame supports a refuse container 4 and a trunnion 7 having jets 12, 13. The pressure fluid is supplied via pipe 10. A scraper 15 engages the refuse and wires 16 act to disengage refuse in advance of the jets. Small refuse is removed by the cyclone 20 and larger detritus passes underneath the pipes 17 direct to the box 4 which is lined with gaspermeable material. An illustrated modification comprises a hand propelled machine with a flash steam generator. The jets can be fitted in a revolving member and disposed at an angle such that rotation of the member is caused by the jets which form an air brush. The inclined member 14 may be fitted with a conveyer belt. Water may be introduced into the gaseous stream thus laying dust. The machine will also melt frost. If an engine is used for the gas supply, it may be arranged to drive the machine either by conventional means or by an airscrew.
