Abstract
1,259,593. Injection moulding. B. F. BROOKER, and P. G. KING. 15 Jan., 1969 [20 Dec., 1967], No. 57769/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B7] A thermoplastic, e.g. polypropylene, mudflap 1 (see Division B7) comprising an attachment portion 2 connected to a flap portion 3 by a reduced thickness hinge portion 5 flanked by a pair of dependent flaps preventing excess pivotal movement of the flap portion 3 is made in one piece by injection moulding. The mould comprises two halves 10, 11 and a pair of inserts 12, 13 slidably received on pins secured to the mould halves 10, 11, the inserts 12, 13 defining the hinge portion 5 and the flaps. A charge of molten thermoplastics is injected into the mould and after setting, the two halves 10, 11 are separated, and the inserts 12, 13 slipped out of the moulded mudflap.
