Abstract

1301652 Injection moulding wheels and tyres GOFFTON Ltd 21 Jan 1970 [23 Oct 1968] 50350/68 Heading B5A [Also in Division B7] A plastics. e.g. polypropylene, wheel hub 5, Fig. 2, is injection-moulded in a mould comprising die halves 8, 9, Fig. 3, half 8 being fixed and half 9 movable by a platen 10, and a core 13 to form the central hole 6 through the wheel, the plastics material being injected through a sprue 15. Any bearing bush or roller bearing may be supported by core protrusion 14. Alternatively, where a fixed axle is required, this replaces protrusion 14. After removal from the mould, the hub is supported in another and similarly constructed mould (Fig. 6, not shown), for a tyre 2, e.g. of plasticized polyvinylchloride, to be injection-moulded therearound and keyed to the hub by loops 17 of tyre material passing through apertures 7 in the hub.
