Abstract

1,260,853. Injection moulding. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. 9 May, 1969 [31 May, 1968], No. 26236/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions B7 and F2] A tyred wheel is made by moulding under pressure, such as by injection moulding, a hub of relatively rigid material into a preformed tyre of resilient material so that the hub stretches the tyre. A pre-formed moulded tyre 1 of polyurethane with an inner rib 3 and axially extending slots 4 has a polyamide hub 5 ininjection moulded thereto. The slots provide interlocking at 11 between the hub and tyre, and the hub has a bore 7 to receive bearing bushes 8 which may be press-fitted after moulding or placed in the mould before the injection. The axial width of the mould cavity at the rim and tyre portion is slightly less than the tyre width to provide a seal.
