Abstract

1,259,576. Piezo-electric transformers. DENKI ONKYO CO. Ltd. 6 May, 1970 [8 May, 1969], No. 21750/70, Heading H3U. [Also in Division H2F] A high-voltage generator for use with a television or cathode-ray tube, employs a piezoelectric transformer 40. A horizontal deflection circuit 10 feeds an A.C. signal to a filter circuit 30. The input terminals 11 and 12 receive a horizontal synchronizing signal. The filter circuit 30 comprises a capacitor 31 and an inductor 32, which acts as a bandpass filter, resonant at the resonant frequency of the piezoelectric crystal 40. This filter prevents D.C. being fed directly on to the piezo-electric crystal, thus avoiding distortion. It also prevents frequency drift when no horizontal synchronizing signal is fed into the circuit, thus preventing excessive current being drawn through transistor 14. The output from the piezo-electric transformer is fed through a voltage rectifying and doubling circuit 50. In an alternative embodiment the filter unit 30 may be fed from a tapping point on transformer 19 and the inductor 32 may be variable. Alternatively the piezo-electric crystal may be fed from a tapping point on the inductor 32. In yet another embodiment the inductor 32 is connected to the transformer 19 on one side and to a capacitor 31 on the other side and the piezo-electric crystal is fed from a centre tap on the capacitor.
