Abstract

1,259,335. Flooring tiles. E. GREGSON. 12 Oct., 1970 [31 Oct., 1969], No. 53389/69. Heading B2E. A sheet or tile suitable for use as flooring is made by coating a plywood or asbestos board with a polyurethane, polyethylene or polyester resin, allowing the resin to partially set for a period of approximately one hour, applying a solventless colourless or white resin to the the coating, coating the solventless resin layer with coloured polyvinylchloride flakes whilst the resin is still fluid, but partially set, allowing the solventless resin to set for a period of 12 to 18 hours, applying a further coating of a clear resin and allowing this to cure for approximately 24 hours.. The edges of the tiles may be grooved to enable them to be assembled side by side by strips of metal, plastics or wood. The rear face of the sheet may be coated with a polyurethane to render it waterpoof. After the tiles have been laid a coat or coats of clear polyurethane, polyethylene or polyester resin may be applied over the surfaces of the tiles to seal the joints and present a durable surface finish.
