Abstract
1,258,780. Mowing machines. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIKEN N.V. 1 Oct., 1969 [2 Oct., 1968], No. 48185/69. Heading A1F. A mowing machine comprises a rotatably driven cutting plate 6 whose edge 7 has teeth (8), Fig. 2 (not shown), between which are crop-collecting gaps. A counter-cutting member 11 is mounted above the plate 6 on a shaft 4 which is concentric with the shaft 5 on which the plate 6 is mounted, the members 6, 11 rotating in opposite directions. The member 11 has cutters 12 spaced about its periphery whose cutting edges 13 are resiliently held against the adjacent peripheral portion of the cutting plate 6 by a spring (16B), Fig. 3 (not shown), in the non-working position of the machine. During operation of the machine, stalks are guided into the said gaps and cut. In a modification a counter-cutter (22), Fig. 6 (not shown), which can be hook shaped, is movable in an opening (25) in a holder (24), a spring (27) pressing the cutter against the cutting plate (18). When the cutting edge (21) engages with a stalk (which will project through plate (18)), the resultant forces clamp the cutter (22) to the holder (24) during the actual cutting process.
