Abstract
1,258,165. Cleaning ships' tanks. GAMLEN CHEMICAL CO. (U.K.) Ltd. July 14, 1970 [July 30, 1969], No.38282/69. Heading A4F. Apparatus for cleaning a ships' hold or cank comprises a tank cleaning machine 6 carried by a mounting 3 adapted to be mounted on a hatch cover 2, means e.g. an inlet pipe 20, for passing liquid to the machine 6 from outside the hold or tank 1. and pivotable means including rotary pipe coupling 4, permitting the machine to be movable between an inoperative position within the cover 2 and an operative position where it extends into the hold or tank 1. The machine 6 is raised into and lowered from the hatch cover 2 by a winch 7 the cable 8 of which is attached to the liquid supply tube 5 carrying the machine 6. A hook 13 engages an eye 14 on the tube 5 to hold the machine in its raised position. Additionally the machine 6 may be tied to the cover 2 by a strap 17. Rods 25 Fig. 3 (not shown), are screwed into sleeves 22 to bear on, stop surfaces on the swivel coupling 4 to prevent swinging movements of the pipe 5 when the machine is in use.
