A drying apparatus comprises an endless conveyer 2 for carrying material (e.g. rubber) through several drying zones, each zone being provided with its own air circulation system having a reversible blower 13 and heating means 10, a fixed side piece 17 mounted above and at each side of the conveyer 2, the spacing apart of the side pieces 17 being less than the conveyer width and the conveyer 2 being pierced with holes only in its part between the side pieces 17, and a flexible member 18 fixed to each side piece 17 and sealingly engaging the conveyer 2. The conveyer may be constituted by a metal fabric band or hinged plates. The drying zones may be defined by collapsible or removable partitions. The air flow in adjacent drying zones may be in opposite directions. The drying apparatus may comprise superimposed endless conveyers.
