Abstract

1,257,948. Treating textiles. CIBA-GEIGY A.G. 30 Oct., 1969 [1 Nov., 1968], No. 53335/ 69. Heading DIP. [Also in Division C2] Cellulose-containing fibrous materials are finished by applying thereto a compound of the formula in which R is an optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, heterocyclic, alkoxy, alkenyloxy or aryloxy group, and drying and fixing the treated material at an elevated temperature. The properties of the finished material depend on the radical R, C 1-5 alkoxy groups imparting crease-resistance, C 16-22 alkoxy groups, water repellance and/or soft handle, perfluoroalkyl oil-repellance, halogenated groups protection against micro-organisms. Some flame-proofing effect can also be achieved. The compounds may be applied from aqueous baths or on a padder at room temperature or above, dried at 50-100‹C. and fixed at 120-180‹C, optionally in the presence of an acid catalyst, e.g ammonium phosphate or phosphoric acid. Examples 6 and 7 describe the impregnation of cotton fabrics to obtain a water-repellant and a crease-resistant product.
