Abstract
1,257,936. Air cushion vehicles. AEROJETGENERAL CORP. 7 July, 1969, No. 34139/69. Heading B7K. An air cushion vehicle has, attached beneath its rigid structure 12, Fig. 1, cushion cells each comprising a flexible wall 16, Fig. 2, defining an expandible chamber 18 which is supplied by pressurized air and having orifices 20 to supply pressurized air to a region between the lower part of the wall and the ground, the cushion cells being as shown bonded together with a suitable resin to contain a further cushion 14, which may be pressurized separately or by air escaping from the cushion cells, non-tapered cells may be used, and may have peripheral depending skirts. In Fig. 5 the cells have complementary engagement as shown so that they form a fluidtight seal without resin bonding. Fig. 7 shows cells attached to an angled wall 32 and having resilient restraining bands 26 which are also present in the embodiment of Fig. 1. As shown, the bands 26 may be further tensioned to retract the cells for landing on supports 54.
