Abstract

1,208,924. Air-cushion vehicles. HOVERMARINE Ltd. 7 May, 1969 [9 May, 1968], o. 21972/68. Heading B7K. In an air-cushion vehicle which has a hollow inflatable skirt 5 provided with vents 8 through which air passes to form a cushion 3, an inflatable member 9 is positioned within the skirt and attached to the bottom of the vehicle at points 28, 29 and has apertures 30 through which cushion air is supplied. On deflection of the skirt by an object 2 the member 9 restricts the outflow of air through vents 8 and pressure builds up inside the skirt 5 to provide a resistance to the deflection. In a further construction the vehicle is provided with a plurality of contiguously disposed flexible skirt members depending from the bottom of the skirt 5 so as to form a flexible extension thereof and each skirt member has a U-like plan form the concavity of which faces the internal space of skirt 5 as described in Specification 1,043,351.
