Abstract
1,257,080. Chills or denseners. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 31 March, 1970 [14 April, 1969], No. 18932/69. Heading B3F. In a chill mould having one or more chills, a non-woven, e.g. matted, blanket (mainly of refractory fibre such as slag wool, rock wool or or aluminium silicate fibres) provides refractory insulation on the side of at least one chill remote from the cavity. The blanket is at least “ inch thick and has a density greater than 6 lbs./cu. ft. Such a blanket is located, in a sand mould for casting a steel roll, behind the metal chills in the cope neck section to reduce porosity.
