The cover 1 of a potentiometer is moulded from conductive material and is formed with terminals 7, 7a, 10 and tabs 15, 15a which are crimped on to an insulating base plate 4. At the same time, two of the terminals 7, 7a are separated from the cover by removing lugs 13, 13a. The-contacts 26, 27 of a slider 3 carried on a rotor 2 traverse-resistance and collector tracks 5, 6 printed on the base plate 4. The rotor may be of moulded insulating material and is formed with a stop 21 which abuts a stop 22 on the cover at the limits of rotation. Axial portions 19, 23 extend through apertures in the cover and base plate. The terminals 8, 8a extend throughthe cover 1 to form contacts (16, 16a, 17, Fig. 2, not shown) which may be soldered toexternal circuitry. In another embodiment the rotor has a disc portion extending beyond the edges of the cover to form. a thumb wheel. Several potentiometers may be mounted inside a single cover (41, 45 Figs. 6, 7, not shown). The terminals are carried by a common strip, moulded with the cover, which is severed when the cover is crimped on to the base plate of each potentiometer.
