Abstract

1,256,873. Lined cartons; food stuff packages. UNILEVER Ltd. 20 Feb., 1969 [21 Feb., 1968], No. 8455/68. Headings B8C and B8P. A carton has a liner adhered thereto by an adhesive having the property of becoming non- adhesive at low temperatures, e.g. below 5‹ C. As shown, the liner 2 is adhered to the carton blank 1 by one or more lines of adhesive 4. The set-up carton, Fig. 2, may be filled with foodstuff 5, e.g. ice cream, and the remaining flaps secured, e.g. by glue. During subsequent lowtemperature storage of the package, the liner becomes disadhered from the carton and may be easily removed, together with the foodstuff it encircles, when the carton is opened, Fig. 3 (not shown), a perforated tear strip 7 on side flap 6 being provided for the latter purpose. The adhesive may be polybutyl methacrylate, butadiene styrene co-polymer, modified starch, polyvinyl acetate softened with either dibutyl phthalate or polyvinyl methyl ether or polybutyl acrylate, or vinyl acetate acrylic copolymer.
