Abstract

1,256,509. Conveying and separating articles. WELLMAN-CRANES Ltd. 26 Aug., 1969 [10 July, 1968], No. 32999/68. Heading B8A. Apparatus for unscrambling elongated articles, e.g. steel rods 26, comprises a fixed rack assembly 11 and a movable rack assembly 18, the racks of the latter forming the top links of a parallel-link motion which also includes links 19. The link motion is actuated by an hydraulic ram 22. In operation, rods 26 are dumped in scrambled array on a platform 27 and are controlled by a retractable stop 29. From the position 32, the rods, by the motion of the racks 18, are conveyed one at a time, substantially parallel to each other, on to an unloading platform 35. Any reject rod may be diverted by arms 36. A rack assembly may consist of one rack only provided it is of a thickness ,that it will stably support the articles.
