Abstract

1,255,994. Syringe case. SHERWOOD MEDICAL INDUSTRIES Inc. 28 Feb., 1969 [22 March, 1968], No. 11012/69. Heading A5R. [Also in Division B8] A needle cap 36 for a syringe comprises a closed end 48 merging into the narrower end of a tapered body 44, the tapered body having a plurality of equispaced, radially inwardly and longitudinally extending ribs 52 with ends 53 shaped to guide the cannula of a syringe during insertion into the cap, and a circumferentially extending axial groove 42 facing away from the closed end of the needle cap. As described the cap forms part of a package 10 which includes a syringe 12 and a cap 30 for the barrel end of the syringe. The needle of the syringe is enclosed in a sleeve 28 of plastics material to provide a tight fit with the ribs. The enlarged end of the needle cap may have flat surfaces to prevent the package rolling. The barrel cap 30 fits sealingly in groove 42 of the needle cap to maintain the syringe in a sterile condition, and the two caps are secured together by taping or spot welding.
