1,254,550. Washing bed-ridden patients. SVENSKA UTVECKLINGSAKTIEBOLAGET. 30 Dec., 1968 [12 Jan., 1968], No. 61577/ 68. Heading A5R. Apparatus for washing the skin of a patient comprises a compressor 2, supplying air to a foam preparing vessel 6, and directing the foam through a duct 7 and a supply duct in a nozzle 8 which also has an annular passage concentric with the supply duct for the return of used foam by a suction pump 14 through a hose 11 to a collecting container 15. The nozzle 8 is provided with a detachable bath sponge 9 and a detachable outer ring 10 of foamed plastics. A second nozzle 22 for removing heavy soilings, comprises an exchangeable ring 23 of non-rigid plastics material with holes for the inlet of air and corresponding passageways for the supply of foam, which are connected through a hose 24 to a 3-way valve 25 on the vessel 6. Foams produced by blowing air through a nozzle 5 in vessel 6, containing a solution of water and detergent or surface-active agent. Medicaments may be added. A safety valve 13 is positioned between valve 12 and suction pump 14. Container 15 is provided with a spring loaded relief valve 17 and an electric filament 18 for sterilising escaping air. Containers 15 and 21 have inlet ducts for the addition of disinfecting agents. The apparatus is mounted in a cabinet (1) on a trolley (fig. 2).
