Abstract

1,254,352. Electric couplings. RAYCHEM CORP. 11 Aug., 1969 [12 Aug., 1968], No. 39985/69. Heading H2E. A connector for interconnecting plug pins 16, 17 terminating conductors 18, 19 comprises a strip 10 of plastics "memory" material having therethrough a plurality of bores 11, each bore housing a double-ended resilient metal socket 12. The bores 11 are expanded under heat, cooled, provided with the sockets 12, and partially recovered to grip the sockets as shown. In use, pins 16, 17 are inserted in a socket, whereafter the material around the corresponding bore 11 is further recovered by heating to sealingly grip the pins and the ends of conductors 18, 19. To release the pins the material is again heated. In a modification, the sockets comprise opened jaws which are closed on to the pins by the recovering plastics material.
