Abstract
1,254,217. Electrophotographic element. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. 28 Feb., 1969, No. 10953/69. Heading H1K. A flexible transparent electrophotographic film comprises an insulating substrate, an electrically conductive layer, an adhesive layer including polyvinyl acetate and a layer containing a polymeric photoconductor having units of formula wherein X is one or more substituents and is H, Cl, Br, I or NO 2 and n is an integer. The preferred thickness, resistivity and transparency of each layer is specified. The insulating substrate may be cellulose acetate, polycarbonate, polystyrene, polypropylene; polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene terephthalate. The conductive layer may be Cr, Cr+Ni, Cu, Cu 2 I 2 , Au, Sn, SnO 2 , Ti or Ti monoxide. A copper iodide layer may be made by evaporating Cu on to the support and then treating with a solution of iodine in an organic solvent. A titanium layer is made by evaporation of the element. The adhesive layer containing polyvinyl acetate is applied to the conductive layer as an organic solution together with a plasticizer such as diethylphthalate, dioctylphosphate or chlorinated polyphenyl which modifies the resistivity, flexibility and surface adhesion of the layer. The adhesive layer is dried untilalmost tackfree before the photoconductive layer is applied. The poly-N-vinyl carbazole derivative may be applied as an organic solution together with chlorinated diphenyl or terphenyl or mixtures thereof and sensitizers - such as 2-methyl anthraquinone, 3,6 - dinitronaphthalic anhydride; 2 - (p - methoxystyril). - 3 - phenyl benzopyrylium perchlorate, 1 - nitroanthraquinone, or rhodamine B.
